How Padi Academy Approaches Household Reserve Building
Understand the Household
Before any targets are set, we map the household's actual monthly cash flow — income, fixed obligations, EPF contributions, insurance, and discretionary spending. All calculations use real MYR figures.
Build a Layered Plan
We apply the Padi Layered Reserve Model — three tiers of savings matched to appropriate vehicles — and calculate a realistic monthly contribution that does not destabilise the household's existing obligations.
Automate and Review
We help participants set up standing instructions during the course so that savings happen without willpower. Review checkpoints are built into the longer programmes to adjust for life changes.
Building Your First Emergency Fund
A three-week course for adults 40 and above who are starting their first deliberate household reserve. The course covers honest budgeting for Malaysian middle-income households, automating savings through standing instructions, and choosing between fixed deposits, money market funds, and savings accounts — with clear guidance on what each vehicle is actually suited for.
What the Course Covers
- What a three-to-six month household reserve actually means in MYR
- Honest budgeting that accounts for EPF, insurance, and school fees
- Fixed deposits vs money market funds vs savings accounts — a clear comparison
- Standing instruction setup at Malaysian banks
- Recognising and avoiding common withdrawal triggers
Process
Included
Evening webinars (Tue & Thu, 8–9:30 PM MYT) · Printed workbook · Phone consultation with a licensed counsellor

The course addresses layered savings, insurance coordination, and structured contingency planning for redundancy or serious illness.

Quality Assurance
Course materials are reviewed biannually against current Malaysian bank products, EPF regulations, and Bank Negara guidelines to maintain accuracy.
Between-Session Support
All enrolled participants can contact the team by email or phone between sessions at no additional charge. Questions do not wait for the next webinar.
No Product Commission
Padi Academy does not receive fees from financial product providers. Our sole income is course fees — which means our advice is not shaped by what earns us more.
Plain Language
Every piece of written material is reviewed to ensure it reads clearly without financial training. We use the language of household life, not the language of finance textbooks.
